Benefits of a Content Management System
Quick Web Ltd has worked on Content Management Systems (CMS) since our
inception, rightly recognising them to be the best way to get content onto the
Internet quickly, with the minimum of fuss.
There are a large number of CMS systems around - many are free, some are
incredibly expensive. We have worked on a number of these systems, and can
understand how small non-IT businesses can get confused with the choice
available.
We can create a CMS system just for you, with the editable content that you
want, not that someone else has decided and forced you to into. Of course, we
don't start from scratch every time, as we have many years of experience which
we can put into practice for you - a real benefit that you don't get from the
free packages you can download. But we urge you to try these packages and to see
how you get on - our CMSs are fully hosted, with your own domain name, and full
security so only you and your team are able to make updates.
One of the main benefits of a CMS is that you can update your website, with a
minimum of fuss, without having to learn how to create webpages or upload new
document or images with an FTP client. If your requirements suit a very
regimented model, you can have very strict forms that ask specific questions,
which all go toward making your new content page. Other applications will need
to be less restrictive, and simply allow you to paste in fragments of HTML. But
the basic premise is that you go to your secure administration pages, enter the
information that you have already decided is required, and publish your
changes.
Further benefits are more quantifiable - they include saving you money and
ensuring that your website is more up to date and relevent than your
competitors:
- No editing of pages
- No uploading content with confusing tools
- Easy to create new content
- No need to pay an external company to make updates
- Fix mistakes quickly
- React to market changes
- Change look of site very quickly
- Different admin users can edit different content
We can populate a new CMS from existing content from aa
website, SQL Server, Access, Excel, Word, XML etc. and even provide an import
page if you have new data regularly arrive in a specific format (such as from
other suppliers).
An area this final point can be very useful in is if you need to combine
multiple external feeds from suppliers into a single searchable database of part
details, prices etc. We have a number of systems that works along these lines
and combine locally held information with data consumed from external web
services, proprietary text files, and uploaded XML files. We can then
provide a single dataset for you to add your own information to before
publishing or making available to an internal user-base.
